DAVIDSON CO., Tenn. (WTVF) — A driver was killed early Friday morning after his car collided with a tractor-trailer on I-24 east near the Rutherford County line, according to Metro Nashville Police.
The crash happened around 12:40 a.m.
Police said traffic was slowing because of lane closures for road work when the tractor-trailer began preparing to change lanes. Investigators said the Toyota Camry then made a sudden lane change and struck the back of the trailer.
The Camry was traveling fast enough that the trailer intruded into the passenger cabin, police said.
The driver of the Camry died. He has been tentatively identified as a 26-year-old man, and the Medical Examiner is working to confirm his identity.
The truck driver was not injured.
Police said there was no evidence of impairment at the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates speed and failure to maintain lane by the Camry driver contributed to the crash.
