ANTIOCH, Tenn. (WTVF) — A teenager was injured after part of a tree broke off and struck the camper at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan, according to Metro Nashville police.
Police said the teenager was sitting beneath the tree when part of it fell. The camper was taken to a hospital for medical care.
The teenager’s condition was not immediately available.
The YMCA of Middle Tennessee said the incident happened during a group hike in the woods as part of Teen Extreme Camp. The organization released the following statement:
"Earlier today an injury occurred during Teen Extreme Camp at Camp Widjiwagan when a tree hit a camper during a group hike in the woods. Emergency protocols were activated.
A team is on site at Camp Widjiwagan to support campers and staff who were involved in the incident and emergency response efforts. Our focus at this time is on communicating with affected camper families and caring for those impacted by the incident.
We ask for your patience and prayers for all involved as we cooperate with authorities during their review of the incident."
