Police said funeral arrangements have been set for a Memphis officer who was run over and killed by a suspect who was trying to evade police after shooting three people.
Memphis police said visitation services for Officer Verdell Smith have been scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Hope Presbyterian Church.
The church was set to host the funeral service for Smith on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial has been scheduled to take place after the funeral service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Authorities said Smith died Saturday night after he was struck while trying to clear pedestrians from the area near Beale Street. Police said he was hit by 21-year-old Justine Welch, who has been accused of shooting three people before leading officers on a vehicle pursuit.
Welch has a scheduled court appearance on Wednesday.
