GE Power To Close Chattanooga Alstom Plants, Lay Off 235

Posted

GE Power has announced plans to shut the Chattanooga Alstom facilities it recently acquired and lay off most of the workforce.

GE spokeswoman Katie Roberts Jackson told the Chattanooga Times Free-Press the company will close three former Alstom facilities on Riverfront Parkway it bought late last year, eliminating 235 jobs.

GE officials said they have about 50 Chattanooga employees who will not be affected by the closures.

Jackson said the future of the manufacturing site, including a $300 million plant Alstom opened in 2010 to meet predicted nuclear power demand, has been "under review."

U.S.-based GE completed its $10.6 billion acquisition of the power and transmission division of France-based Alstom last November.
