State workplace safety investigators have been looking into the death of a contract employee at the M&M Mars plant in southeastern Tennessee.
Multiple media outlets reported the worker for Cleveland-based Custom Mechanical Contractors died at the plant Thursday afternoon.
A Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigator was sent to the plant after the death was reported, and returned again on Friday. The agency will not release information about its investigations until a final report has been issued.
Mars in 2013 completed a $67 million expansion of the 650,000-square-foot Cleveland plant. The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported at the time that the plant could make up to 330 million M&M's per day, and 72 tons of Twix in 12 hours.
The factory opened in 1979.
