Judge Rules In High School Basketball Rape Case

Posted

A person familiar with the case said one Tennessee high school basketball player has been found guilty of aggravated rape and two others were found guilty of aggravated assault against a freshman teammate.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the juvenile hearing Tuesday involving the Ooltewah High School students was closed to the public and no ruling was publicly announced immediately afterward. The names of the defendants haven't been released because they were in juvenile court.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press first reported the verdicts.

Gatlinburg police said three Ooltewah players assaulted a freshman teammate with a pool cue December 22 while the team was playing in a tournament.

The case has also led to charges against Ooltewah High officials and the Gatlinburg detective who investigated the incident.
