Authorities in Tennessee have been investigating the shooting and wounding of a man by a sheriff's deputy.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman Josh DeVine told local media that the shooting took place near a restaurant in the city of Sevierville after a Sevier County Sheriff's Office deputy tried to apprehend a "wanted individual."
The man crashed his vehicle into the deputy's vehicle and then ran from the scene. DeVine said the man then brandished a gun. The situation "escalated," and the deputy shot the man.
Local media quoted the TBI as identifying the suspect as 29-year-old Brandon David Bearden.
The suspect and the deputy were taken to different hospitals. TBI said the deputy was not seriously injured. His name was not released.
