The incident happened Thursday when a van driver was driving five girls back from a counseling session.

The teens have been staying at the Chance Residential Center for those with emotional issues and behavioral problems.

According to reports, the van driver was overpowered and strangled to the point of unconsciousness. Authorities said when she regained consciousness, she called for help.

Officials said the girls were taken to a detention center, but no further details were immediately available.
