The Marine recruiter who was shot in the leg during a deadly attack in Chattanooga has been set to accept a Purple Heart.

A spokesman for the U.S. Marine Corps confirmed to media outlets Wednesday that Sergeant DeMonte Cheeley has been set to receive the honor January 26. The time and location of the ceremony has not yet been released.

Cheeley was wounded when a gunman opened fire on a recruiting office in Chattanooga last summer. Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, age 24, went on to attack a Navy-Marine reserve center, where he killed four Marines and mortally wounded a U.S. Navy sailor.

Officials announced in December that Cheeley, as well as the five servicemen who were killed that day, would all be receiving Purple Hearts.
