A well-known wrestler and his fiancée were arrested on charges of domestic assault.
Authorities confirmed 66-year-old Memphis wrestler Jerry “The King” Lawler and his fiancée, 27-year-old Lauryn McBride, were both taken into custody around 1 a.m. Friday in Shelby County.
According to reports, Lawler and McBride had a fight at his home on St. Nick Drive.
Lawler’s fiancée said he hit her in the head and pushed her against a stove. According to Lawler, she scratched him in the face, threw a candle at him, and kicked him in the groin.
Reports stated McBride told authorities Lawler placed an unloaded pistol on the kitchen counter and allegedly told her to kill herself.
However, according to Lawler, McBride was intoxicated. He added she was the one who brought the pistol into the kitchen.
According to WREG in Memphis, Lawler’s wrestling career has spanned decades, and he even ran for Memphis mayor a few times. He also owns a restaurant on Beale Street.
Officials said Lawler posted bond and left jail around 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Those with the WWE said Lawler has been suspended.
