NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Storm 5 Alert has been issued for much of Friday as a front bringing cooler air pushes through the area. Strong to severe storms are expected to develop across much of Middle Tennessee.

It is expected to be another hot day across the area with a high around 92 degrees. Very moist air will continue to persist throughout the day.

NewsChannel 5 meteorologist Lelan Statom said as the front approaches, strong to severe storms are likely. Damaging winds, along with heavy rain and hail will be the main threat associated with the storms.

The best time frame of when we could see severe weather will be from 6 p.m. Friday through early Saturday morning.

A few scattered storms could begin firing up as soon as this afternoon.

A cold front is projected to move through early Saturday morning followed by cooler and drier air by nighttime.
