NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A severe storm moved through Nashville Tuesday afternoon leaving many people in the dark.
At 6:30 p.m. theNashville Electric Servicewas reporting over 23,000 customers in the dark.
The storm caused power to go out at Nashville International Airport. Officials there say they believe they were hit by lightning. The airport spent part of the afternoon working off generator power.
The power issues caused some of the jetways to not work correctly. Because of this, planes could land, but some couldn’t get up to the terminal because some of the jet bridges wouldn’t move.
Southwest Airlines diverted at least 6 flights due to the problem. Many other flights Tuesday night were delayed. You can check the airport’s real time flight info here.
If you are headed to the airport, everyone is reminded to check your flight status before you leave.
High winds and heavy rains caused additional problems throughout the area. In White House, a sprinkler main ruptured at Lowe's Mill work after a 40-by-50-foot section of the roof collapsed.
The building suffered heavy water damage, but no one was hurt.
In Caldwell County, Kentucky, a woman was killed after her vehicle was swept away by flood waters.
A massive sinkhole opened up on Blackhawk Road. The road was expected to be closed for at least a month.
