Thousands of Williamson County teachers and students will head back to the classroom Friday for their first day of school.

Williamson County Schools serves some 40,000 students. Kindergarteners start back on August 20, while grades one through 12 head back this morning for a half-day.

Among some of the changes in effect this year are the addition of three, new schools to the district – Thompson Station Elementary, Thompson Station Middle and Jordan Elementary schools.

The school district is also offering new curriculum opportunities this year, which includes expanding their online programs. They’re also adding new programs to help students emotionally and socially.

“Hopefully we'll see a lot of winning. They'll win academically, we'll win artistically at all levels and then hopefully we’ll have a couple state championships out there, as well,” Williamson County Schools Director Dr. Mike Looney.
