Westbound lanes of Interstate 24 were closed in Rutherford County near the Davidson County line after a woman apparently jumped from the overpass.
The incident happened shortly before 10 a.m. Monday at the Waldron Road overpass in La Vergne. The interstate was expected to remain closed until 2 p.m., but officials reopened westbound lanes just before 1 p.m.
Investigators said the woman died from her injuries after jumping from the overpass and onto the roadway below. It was unclear if she was hit by oncoming vehicles.
Officials from the Tennessee Department of Transportation confirmed the westbound lanes were closed at mile marker 64. Traffic was being diverted onto Waldron Road.
Eastbound traffic was not effected.
