Suspect arrested in Putnam County shooting

A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with a weekend shooting in Putnam County. 

The incident happened Friday night at a residence on Bunker Hill Road near the White County line. 

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said Avert Johnson, who goes by the nickname Kojak, was wanted in the case. 

A 26-year-old White County man was shot and taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. 

A 31-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man also suffered non-life-threatening injuries from an assault during the incident.  

Johnson was arrested Monday morning without incident. Investigators said he has a lengthy criminal history.
