NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man has been charged and arrested after allegedly firing shots during an encounter with a sheriff’s deputy.

Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said 33-year-old Nelson Yojeni Ochoa-Puentes was charged Friday with one count of attempted first degree murder.

According to authorities, Ochoa-Puentes led a deputy from Cheatham County on a pursuit through a rural part of that county and Dickson County early Monday morning.

The deputy was attempting to stop the suspect for speeding, and when the chase ended at Bloom Landing Road and Shannon Annex Road, authorities said Ochoa-Puentes got out of his vehicle and fired multiple rounds.

According to reports, the deputy returned fire, and Ochoa-Puentes was injured. He was treated and released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The deputy was not injured.

Ochoa-Puentes was being held in the Dickson County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.
