NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A suspect has been arrested after allegedly assaulting an off-duty Davidson County Sheriff's deputy while fleeing the scene of a robbery in South Nashville.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a Delta Express on Old Hickory Boulevard near Nolensville Road.
Officials with Metro Police said Sgt. Solomon Holley III had recently gotten off work and had stopped at the gas station. At one point, a clerk came running out of the store saying a man had stolen beer.
Holley saw the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Andrew Thomas White, running down the street and began chasing him on foot. White, who apparently didn’t realize the person chasing him was an authority figure, began swinging his arms and struck Holley in the face.
At that point, he pulled out his pepper spray to subdue White. Additional officers arrived on the scene and took the suspect into custody.
The beer White allegedly tried to steal was valued at $22.99.
He was arrested and charged with assault, theft and resisting arrest.
