NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A suspect was taken into custody following a domestic argument which led to a police pursuit throughout Davidson County.
Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said 19-year-old John Lewis and his girlfriend stopped at a market on Moormans Arm Road and Buena Vista Pike, just north of Nashville, Wednesday afternoon.
A witness reported seeing the woman flee a small car as a man, identified as Lewis, grabbed her and forced her back into the vehicle. She was heard screaming for help as the incident happened.
Lewis reportedly fled the scene and was later spotted near Trinity Lane. Officers attempted to stop the car, but he did not stop.
At that point, police suspended the pursuit and dispatched a helicopter to continue following the car.
After merging onto Interstate 24, Lewis eventually stopped the car near Battle Road in Cane Ridge. He tried to flee the scene on foot but was taken into custody without incident by officers.
The woman was not hurt.
Lewis was charged with aggravated kidnapping, reckless endangerment, evading arrest by motor vehicle, driving without a license and leaving the scene of a property damage crash after hitting another car in South Nashville.
Police said a male passenger in the car with Lewis would not be charged.
