SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police say a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the killing of a Shreveport police officer.

Grover Deandre Cannon, 27, was arrested Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of Officer Thomas LaValley.

LaValley, 29, was shot multiple times after answering a call about a suspicious person at a home in Shreveport's Queensborough neighborhood Wednesday night.

Lavalley was taken to University Health, where he died a short time later.

At the time of his arrest in connection with LaValley's death, Cannon was wanted on a warrant for second-degree attempted murder.
