A suspect was able to get away with a handful of cash after robbing a convenience store in Nashville.

The incident was reported around 1 a.m. Wednesday at a Thorntons on Lebanon Pike.

Officials with Metro Nashville Police said the gunman acted as if he was going to buy something, but instead pulled out a handgun when he got up to the cash register.

Police said the suspect fired a shot in the air as he made his way towards a nearby Big Lots.

The man was wearing a grey hoodie with a fur lining and dark sleeves. He was also wearing grey sweatpants and white tennis shoes.

K9 officers tracked him down to a wooded area at the property next door but ultimately lost the scent.

Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME.
