NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The last time Belmont University held a presidential debate was in 2008 and the world was very different than now in 2020.

Back then, students were able to hold viewing parties, Belmont even held a neighborhood block party - almost like a street festival. Different organizations were able to seize the moment before the debate.

But, as you know, this is 2020 and we are in the middle of a pandemic. Things are different - but one thing is still the same. All eyes are on Belmont.

And just like then, Belmont students are being used in a variety of roles -- everything from running errands to helping with sound checks inside the auditorium.

We spoke with Tess Todora who volunteered as a student back in 2008. Her role then was to guide media and distinguished guests to the proper spots on campus.

Of course this year that job is a little downsized considering the media pool has to be smaller because of COVID-19. She says she’s so thankful she had this opportunity 12 years ago.
