GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. – Lanes of Highway 31 were blocked for several hours in Sumner County after a tanker-truck truck overturned while attempting a U-turn.

The incident was reported early Thursday morning in front of the Zippy Market, between Interstate 65 and Springfield Highway.

Officials on the scene said the driver was attempting a U-turn after exiting off the interstate when the truck overturned on the roadway. He was not injured.

Both lanes of Highway 31 West were shut down by the wreck. Drivers headed to Goodlettsville from I-65 were forced to seek an alternate route.

The tanker was hauling ammonium nitrate gel, which is not considered to be an explosive but it can accelerate other fires.

At one time, fuel was leaking from the tractor but the spill was said to be minor. Hazmat crews were called to the scene to clean up the mess.

A wrecker was able to pull the truck upright and remove it from the road.
