TBI Special Agents have responded to an inmate death at the Coffee County Jail.

Officials said 55-year-old David Arch Bass was found unresponsive in his cell Thursday morning around 7:30 by a Coffee County Sheriff’s Department Correction Officer.

The sheriff's office called the TBI to investigate.

He was pronounced dead around 7:50 a.m., and his body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

Bass was being held on charges of aggravated assault and setting fire to personal property. Coffee County officials said Bass and a 20-year old woman got into an argument then he allegedly poured accelerant on her and set the woman on fire.
