STEWART COUNTY, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating a reported officer-involved shooting.

On Saturday, Stewart County deputies responded to calls about a suspicious vehicle in the area of Hayes Ridge Road and searched the area.

The reported vehicle was found off of Highway 46 in Indian Mound with its driver still inside. Deputies made contact with the driver, Billy Joe Reynolds, 43, who was making suicidal comments and in possession of a firearm.

As deputies awaited specially-trained officers to work to diffuse the situation, they attempted to talk to Reynolds and asked him to exit the vehicle but he refused.

TBI said the driver then pointed a weapon at deputies and fired multiple shots. Three deputies returned fire, killing the suspect. No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.

The investigation by the TBI is ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
