A man was killed in an officer-Involved shooting that occurred during the investigation of a missing woman.

Clarksville Police Department officers visited a residence on Big Sky Drive to ask James Vaughn, the woman's ex-boyfriend, about her disappearance.

Officials did not release the woman's name, but family members of missing woman, Letitia Lane, said Vaugh is her ex-boyfriend. Vaughn allegedly showed up at her job last week to tell her he was leaving town and asked to take her out one last time.

TBI officials said when police arrived at the residence Friday, Vaughn would not cooperate or talk with them. Police continued their efforts for multiple hours.

During that time, officers made contact with him, but their attempts to de-escalate the situation failed.

TBI officials said at one point, Clarksville SWAT members tried to breech the door, but Vaughn fired several times at the door and at officers. Officers did not return fire at that time.

They then used tear gas to gain entry, but it was also unsuccessful. At that point, officers forced their way into the home where they found the Vaughn waiting for them inside with two firearms in his hands.

That's when officers shot and killed him.

TBI officials said the residence was rented by a family acquaintance of the subject.
