NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A recent study by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation shows domestic violence resulted in 270 murder victims in Tennessee from 2012 to 2014.

The study utilizes data sent to TBI through the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System.

The study also found that simple assault accounted for more than 68 percent of all domestic violence offenses, that females were three times more likely to be victimized than males and that victims were six times more likely to be abused by a spouse than an ex-spouse.

TBI Director Mark Gwyn says the persistence of domestic violence and the large number of related incidents reported to law enforcement necessitates continued awareness about the issue.
