NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, 36,000 tons of graded solid rock have been installed on Interstate 24 eastbound near Old Hickory Blvd.
This comes after a portion of I-24 was shut down for almost three weeks.
Officials say the latest calculations estimate that they will need another 35,000 tons of rock to finish the estimated $8 million project. This rock will allow crews to raise the rock foundation another 75 feet in height.
TDOT says soil has been removed to sound solid rock which will allow the new slop to ensure it will be able to drain properly.
The contractor estimates the work will take approximately two months.
