Teen dies after being hit by vehicle in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WTVF) — A teen has died after being hit by a vehicle in Springfield Friday night.

Smokey Barn News first reported the incident, saying Robertson County officials said the teen was hit on Central Avenue near Cheatham Street around 5 p.m.

The road was closed while the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the crash along with multiple emergency departments that responded to the call.

Robertson County EMS have now identified the victim as Jonathan Yates, 18, of Springfield. He was transported to the hospital in “extremely critical” condition but later died, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

THP’s preliminary report says Yates was walking on Central Avenue when he began to cross the street and was hit by a vehicle.

The 17-year-old driver has not been charged.
