Teen Dies After Drinking Morphine

Posted

Cheatham County Officials have suspected a cocktail of morphine and Gatorade is what killed a Cheatham County teen.

Detectives said the 17-year-old boy was found unresponsive Friday morning at a home on Oakwood Road in Joelton.

He was a Sycamore High School student.

He was transported to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville and later taken to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, where he died shortly after 7:30 p.m Saturday.

Detectives believed the teen drank the mixture sometime Thursday night. A friend called police around 11:30 Friday morning when he wouldn’t wake up.

Authorities said they expect to charge the person who sold the drug to the teen with second-degree murder. They expected to learn more information once the autopsy and toxicology report returned.

Officials asked anyone with information on the case to call the Cheatham County Dispatch at 615-792-2098.
