Stephanie and Justin Shults were laid to rest Friday in Stephanie's hometown of Nicholasville, Kentucky.

It was at Vanderbilt University years before that the young couple met and soon fell in love.

Stephanie, a Kentucky native and Justin from east Tennessee were both students at Vanderbilt's Owen Graduate School of Management. They became accountants and moved to Belgium in 2014 as a part of a three year program. It was during that time tragedy struck.

Stephanie's mother, Carolyn Moore, was dropped off at the airport by the couple just before the blasts went off. It was the final day of her trip to Belgium.

The next several days were gut wrenching for family members as no one could locate Stephanie nor Justin.

Two days after the attack their families were told the couple was hurt but alive. However, just hours later family members said the U.S. State Department gave them the wrong information. The couple was still missing as loved ones held out hope.

By the end of the week, however, their hopes were dashed after they learned the couple was amoung the 32 killed in the attacks.

Now they are being laid to rest in Nicholasville, near Stephanie's home town of Lexington. A memorial service for the couple will also be held on Sunday in Sevierville, Tenn., near Justin's hometown of Gatlinburg.
