NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Tennessee Democrats are calling on Gov. Bill Lee to implement a statewide mask mandate amid a spike in new cases and increased hospitalizations.
In the past, the governor has said he wouldn’t implement a statewide mask mandate but would instead allow local officials to make that decision. Counties like Davidson have one, but Democrats think it should be enforced on the state level.
Sen. Raumesh Akbari (D - Memphis) said in a tweet in-part: “Wearing a mask is such a small thing we can do to protect ourselves and others. Do your part to help our numbers go down.”
Tennessee, are you listening? Today we have over 5900 new cases. Wearing a mask is such a small thing we can do to protect ourselves & others. And they have really cute ones, too. Do your part to help our numbers go down. It won’t be like this always. Together, we can beat this! https://t.co/yYXjUUGWRQ

Tennessee Democrats think if Gov. Lee was to implement a statewide mask mandate, it would help cut down on the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths.
