For the last several days a large convoy of first responders from Tennessee has been in Houston, TX working to help flood victims recover from Harvey.
In middle Tennessee, crews from Nashville, Hendersonville and Murfreesboro headed south as a part of the team. For most members of the Nashville team, it was their first time getting deployed out of state and Texans welcomed the help.
"When we walked into a restaurant as an entire team we received a standing ovation," said Matthew Fuson with the Nashville Fire Department. "It was overwhelming."
The living conditions were tough with a heat index above 100 degrees on most days. However, the volunteers were determined to help.
"They slept at the fairgrounds on cots...they brought in fans to help with the heat," Hendersonville Fire Chief Scotty Bush said.
The flood water in parts of Houston will not recede for another two weeks. Despite their circumstances, Texans were more than thankful for the help. "Their outpouring of support was just remarkable," Fuson said.
Crew members spent a portion of Wednesday cleaning their equipment and packing once again in case they're called to help after Hurricane Irma.
