Tennessee House Representative Ben West, Jr. dead at 78

HERMITAGE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Tennessee State Representative Ben West, Jr. (D-Hermitage) passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 78.

West Jr., a democratic member of the Tennessee house of Representative, was the Vice President of Firm American national Bank from 1960 to 1984.

West's father was former Nashville mayor Ben West, after whom the Ben West building next to the courthouse is named. West's brother was the late Jay West, a former Metro councilman and vice mayor.

Council Member Steve Glover reported West Jr.'s passing on his Facebook page on Saturday evening saying, "I'll miss you my friend."

West served in office for 26 years until he retired in 2010.

A gathering of family and friends will be held April 5 from noon to 6 p.m. at Hermitage Funeral Home

A celebration of life service is scheduled for April 6 at 2 p.m. also at Hermitage Funeral Home.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Donelson-Hermitage Youth Football Po Box 148012 Nashville, TN 37214 to benefit the Ben West Sports Complex.
