NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — President Donald Trump was acquitted on both articles of impeachment by the Senate on Wednesday.

As the president's impeachment trial comes to an end, Tennessee lawmakers and candidates are reacting to the vote.

Bill Hagerty, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate:

The impeachment sham trial has finally finished and President Trump’s name is cleared of any wrongdoing. For three years, sore-loser Democrats have been working to overthrow President Trump because he beat their anointed candidate, Hillary Clinton in 2016. The liberal socialists remain hellbent on stopping him from winning re-election in 2020. I am outraged that Mitt Romney voted with the Democrats in favor of impeachment. It's stunning any Republican Senator would’ve gone along with this charade and played into the hands of the Democrats obvious effort not only to undo the results of the 2016 election but to also impact the outcome of the 2020 election as well. As your Senator, I will stand with President Trump to keep America great, and I’ll fight back against the radical liberals who want to destroy our country with their socialist agenda.

Representative Steve Cohen:

I voted for the articles of impeachment in the Judiciary Committee and on the House floor and believe the House managers proved their case in the Senate beyond a reasonable doubt. Because the Senate required a two-thirds vote to remove the President from office, he will remain. But his ignominious impeachment will always be the legacy of his reckless and lawless presidency. A bipartisan majority of Congress has voted to impeach or convict him, and that’s a blemish on his record that the American public should consider in evaluating his remaining time in office.

Senator Marsha Blackburn:
