NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame plans to honor former Colorado Rockies star Todd Helton as its Tennessean of the Year during its May 17 induction banquet.
Helton, a Knoxville native and former University of Tennessee star, ended a 17-year career with the Rockies last season.
The Hall of Fame will honor Middle Tennessee basketball player Ebony Rowe, UT Martin basketball players Jasmine Newsome and Heather Butler and former Tennessee softball pitcher Ivy Renfroe as female amateur athletes of the year. Rich Froning, named the "fittest man on Earth" in the most recent CrossFit Games, is the male amateur athlete of the year.
Former longtime NewsChannel 5 sports anchor Hope Hines will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Lifetime Achievement Inductee.
The Hall of Fame also honors a historical achievement during its banquet. This year it will salute Tennessee State's three consecutive NAIA men's basketball titles from 1957-59.
