NEW BOSTON, Texas (AP) -- Prison officials have identified 47-year-old Timothy Davison as the corrections officer killed in an attack at a far northeast Texas prison.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark said Davison had been with the agency since December.
The agency said Davison was escorting an inmate to his cell Wednesday morning at the Telford Unit near Texarkana when the prisoner used an object to beat the officer. Davison was taken to a hospital and died of his injuries.
Officials have not identified the weapon used.
A 37-year-old inmate with a history of violence toward officers has been identified as the assailant.
