(WTVF) — The end of Daylight Saving Time allows people to catch up on some sleep, but now they have to add a couple of items to their "to do" list this morning.

Besides setting your clocks, it's also a good time to check your smoke detectors. Fire officials encourage families to check detectors in every room of their home and to replace the batteries in each detector.

They say changing the battery in your smoke detectors and Cardon Monoxide detectors.

As we inch closer to the start of the peak time of year for house fires, be sure to develop and practice a home escape plan.

Sadly, seven people die in house fires every day, most of those homes lack working smoke alarms.

Several programs offer free smoke detectors for those who qualify such as a program from the state department and The Red Cross.
