ROBERTSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper has been indicted on assault charges following a report of excessive force during an arrest.

The TBI says Trooper Sammy Allen arrested a man in November who would not pull over for a traffic stop, but rather crashed his truck while trying to drove away from troopers.

While taking him into custody, Allen choked the arrestee twice and punched him in the groin once while he was handcuffed and restrained, according to the TBI.

In Dec., the THP reported the incident to 19th District Attorney General John Carney who in turn requested the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation look into it.

A Robertson County Grand Jury returned indictments, charging Allen with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of assault.

Allen, of Davidson County, surrendered to police Friday night at the Robertson County Jail, where he was booked and released after posting a $15,000 bond.
