A Tennessee Highway Patrol vehicle was hit on Interstate 40 as crews were working a separate crash.
The incident happened just before 2:45 p.m. Friday in the westbound lanes in Dickson County near mile marker 180, just past the exit for State Route 96.
Authorities had not released details regarding the cause of the crash or if any injuries were involved in either the first or second wreck.
Officials had only confirmed the THP vehicle was struck while on the scene of another crash.
The left lane was blocked to westbound drivers. Eastbound traffic was not affected.
Crews estimated the roadway would be cleared by 5 p.m.
