SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (AP) - State Sen. Kerry Roberts has been hurt in a dog attack while riding his bike.
Other media reports stated that the Springfield Republican and his wife, Dianne, were riding their bikes in Robertson County on Wednesday morning when the aggressive dog ran into the road.
Roberts told his wife to ride ahead while he dealt with the dog. The animal bit Roberts in the calf as he was trying to use the bike to shield himself.
The attack ended when a man in a pickup truck blocked the dog.
Roberts said the wound was bleeding heavily, and required 12 stitches. Animal Control officials captured the dog and confirmed it was up to date on his shots.
Roberts represents Cheatham, Dickson, Hickman, Humphreys and Robertson counties.
