LEBANON, Tenn. (WTVF) — In the wake of the devastating tornadoes, Wilson County leaders gave a major update as the recovery continues.
Mayor Randall Hutto says he knows it will be a long process. On Saturday, Hutto surveyed the path of the EF-4 tornado with Tennessee Emergency Management Agency officials from a Black-hawk helicopter.
During the cleanup process, officials are still urging neighbors to separate their debris into piles of trees and branches, exteriors of homes, interiors of homes and metal.
West Wilson Middle School and nearby Stoner Creek Elementary were destroyed in the tornado.
The schools superintendent said its important to talk to your children about what happened.
"Do not minimize what these children have been through," said Donna Wright, superintendent of Wilson County Schools. "Do not overlook that they are going to need support, they need to talk, they need to be comforted."
The Wilson County sheriff warned of companies already coming to town trying to take advantage of storm victims. They say those companies should be reported to the sheriff's office.
