NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — There are talks that Nashville may be getting a second Trader Joe's location in the near future.
The California-based grocery chain is considering leasing a space in West Nashville in the Lion's Head Village shopping center.
The space they have set their sights on, at 90 White Bridge Pike, was originally where Fresh Market was to open a store in 2016. However, those plans were abandoned in 2018, leaving the building empty.
Now Trader Joe's wants to take on the 23,500-square-foot vacancy.
"We are interested in bringing a store to that location and are taking the appropriate steps to make that happen," Kenya Friend-Daniel, spokesperson for Trader Joe's, said. "We look forward to sharing more information if/when plans are finalized."
The chain already has one location in Nashville, more specifically in Green Hills, and they said they're aware that many neighborhoods want a Trader Joe's opened, so they research cities beforehand for locations that fit certain criteria.
"We look at many factors when searching for possible new locations that would be a great fit, including a location's accessibility, visibility, parking, and square footage, whether or not a neighborhood wants a Trader Joe's store in the community and if we have enough Crew Members to open a great store," Friend-Daniel explained. "As for folks in other parts of Nashville who may want a Trader Joe's close to where they live: We are always grateful and appreciative when we hear from people that want a Trader Joe¹s in their neighborhood. While we can't promise to bring a store to a particular area, we are all about opening great neighborhood grocery stores and are always looking for locations that will help make that possible."
The company has filed for an alcohol permit for the White Bridge Pike location from the Metro Beer Permit Board, but the Board has yet to vote on the request.
