A new plan by the Nashville Area Metro Planning Organization called Middle Tennessee Connected has been created in hopes of making transportation a litter easier for commuters in the mid-state.
The plan would invest more than $8 billion into regional transportation projects and programs over the next 25 years.
At the top of the list: Upgrading the interstate loop downtown.
Other funding plans include adding rapid transit to and from Nashville, Franklin, Gallatin and Murfreesboro, a new transit option for commuters between Clarksville and Music City, and improving state routes in rapidly-growing areas like Robertson and Maury counties.
