ONLY, Tenn. (WTVF) — An inmate of the Turney Center Insutrial Complex in Only, Tennessee contracted COVID-19 during a hospital visit on an unrelated medical issue. Because of this, the Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC) is taking extra precautions.

The inmate was taken to the hospital on March 25. When he was scheduled to be discharged on Monday, he developed a fever, and was tested for COVID-19.

The results for the test came back positive on Friday.

Following his discharge the hospital, TDOC says the inmate will be held in isolation in a medical infirmary until he is found to be non-infectious.

Two other inmates, who may have had contact with the positive-testing inmate, have been quarantined and are being observed for any possible symptoms.

TDOC says measures have been taken to ensure the safety, health and well-being of inmates and staff. The measures follow TDOC's guidelines, as well as guidelines of the Tennessee Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control.

Disinfection and safety measures are ongoing, and everyone is being reminded to continue to practice health officials' recommendations to help prevent COVID-19 spread.
