MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — Murfreesboro Police officials say two people were injured in a shooting next to a liquor store Monday afternoon.

Police say the shooting happened in the parking lot next to the University Package Wine & Liquor Warehouse on Middle Tennessee Boulevard after a "botched drug deal."

A 19-year-old and an 18-year-old man met a man and a woman in the parking lot of the business around 3:30 p.m. Police interviewed the accused shooter and woman when they surrendered and police headquarters on Monday. The man said the two shooting victims attempted to rob them so he shot them.

Both shooting victims were taken to the hospital. On Tuesday afternoon, police said the 19-year-old is in stable condition and the 18-year-old is in critical but stable condition.

Police are continuing to investigate.
