NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Two bystanders were injured in a South Nashville shooting, according to Metro Nashville Police officials.

The shootout happened Tuesday evening at the 900 block of Murfreesboro Pike.

Police officials say a vehicle headed northbound on Murfreesboro Road stopped just before the Millwood Drive intersection and three people got out.

The three walked into the Taco Bell parking lot toward a red vehicle and black vehicle, both parked at the market across the street. That's when people in the Taco Bell parking lot began shooting at both vehicles. The people inside returned fire.

Two innocent bystanders were injured: a person in a pickup truck who suffered a non-critical wound to the head and a person at a nearby gas pump who was shot in the shoulder.

"I think it's clear these individuals know or know of each other, said MNPD spokesman Don Aaron. They were specifically shooting at each other. Unfortunately, two innocent persons were hit. It's unclear at this point if any of the shooters were hit."

No suspect(s) has been taken into custody.
