COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WTVF) — Police say two women were injured overnight after their car hit two horses in Maury County.
The crash happened shortly after midnight Thursday on Old State Route 99.
Investigators say the driver was traveling east when she came up on two, full-grown horses that were in the middle of the road. Because the road is dark, it’s unclear if the driver tried to stop or if she didn’t see the animals.
Both women were airlifted to an area hospital in serious condition. Police did not release their names but said they’re possibly in their 20s. The horses were killed in the crash.
The road was closed for hours but reopened around 2:30 a.m.
