Spending hours in a waiting room when you're not feeling well is always a pain. Now Vanderbilt Health has an app for that. It's a new service that brings medical professionals to you.

Now patients can stay at home and wait for nurse practitioners, like Vanderbilt's Nakeisha Micheaux, to make a house call.

"Everything now is about convenience. Now we're bringing convenient healthcare into the home," said Micheaux.

The service is called Vanderbilt Health OnCall. It's a free app for your smartphone.

Providers receive the request and drive directly to your home or office, even your hotel.

This is not a replacement for emergency services but they can provide basic care including physical exams, lab testing and prescribing medications.

"We can come to you to see you about acute things. Such as the common cold, allergies. If you suspect that you have the flu, strep throat," she said.

Practitioners even bring a bag of "first dose" medications in case you don't have time to get to a pharmacy.

Right now the service is available to patients in the Davidson County area but they're hoping to expand.

You must be 18-years-old to be treated. Vanderbilt Health does accept most major insurance plans or you can pay a flat $99 fee for this service. For more information click here
