NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Vanderbilt recognized the doctors, nurses and patients who had some incredible recoveries in their Intensive Care Unit with the Surgical ICU Great Saves Initiative.
The patients in attendance at the event needed extreme life-saving measures and made incredible turnarounds during their time at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dave Reigler suffered from kidney disease his whole life, but when a kidney burst, he was placed in a coma so doctors could save him. He wanted everyone, from surgeons, to nurses to know how grateful he is.
Other patients at the event survived chest surgery, transplant failures, kidney and pancreas removal, the flu and a helicopter crash.
