Veteran Found Dead On VA Property

Posted

A man was found dead on VA property after he he posted a video claiming that the medical center forced him out of treatment.

Sergeant John Toombs recorded the following video Tuesday after he said he was kicked out of the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro for what he called trivial reasons.

"When I asked for help, they opened up a Pandora box, and they just threw me out like a stray dog in the rain," Toombs said.

Toombs' family said he started getting treatment for PTSD and other issues at the VA back in October.

They said he was doing so well, he was even helping teach a class.

Toombs didn't explain the reason he was kicked out, but said he was going to ask for another chance Wednesday.  That never happened.

Security found his body in a vacant building under construction and that it appears he hanged himself.

The VA said an internal investigation is underway but didn't release any other details.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Department is also investigating.
